C.A.R.E. Hospital is a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital offering advanced medical and surgical procedures for your pets. We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are the only 24 hour emergency and referral veterinary hospital for small animals in Santa Barbara County. Our staff includes Board Certified and Residency Trained Specialists in Emergency, Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Oncology and Grief Counseling (for pet loss). We also have a team of trained veterinary technicians and a terrific front office staff to field your questions and/or facilitate a referral to our hospital. Like the best hospitals in human medicine, C.A.R.E. Hospital has state-of-the-art medical equipment & offers advanced procedures. For more information about our services, please see "
Specialties."
Our Chief of Staff, Deanna Purvis, VMD, DACVECC, CVA is a board certified Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Specialist (one of approximately 150 in the country). Jean Greek, DVM, DACVD, is a board certified Veterinary Dermatologist (one of approximately 140 in the country). Andrea Wells, DVM, DACVIM, is a board certified Internal Medicine Specialist. Shannon Carley, DVM had completed her residency and preliminary boards in Internal Medicine. Sue Downing, DVM, DACVIM (ONC) is a board certified oncologist and directs our oncology department. We also have a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Trish Lane, who specializes in grief and loss. Dr. Lane provides grief counseling services to those who have experienced the death of a beloved pet.
We also have six emergency veterinarians assisting us with staffing the emergency service 24 hours a day. At a minimum, they have each completed an additional year of formal training in small animal medicine & surgery (internship). It is rare to have a Diplomate in Emergency and Critical Care complemented by five emergency vets all having completed internships. Dr Purvis also directs our accredited residency program in Emergency and Critical Care (ER/CC). She currently is mentoring one ER/CC resident. We feel privileged to bring these highly qualified clinicians and advanced services to the animals and their guardians of the Central California Coast.
Beyond the advanced medical training and a facility with equipment that would rival the best human ICU, Surgery, Dermatology, Critical Care, Oncology and Internal Medicine Departments - we dearly love animals. Please see "Dedicated to Shiva" under "About CARE" and "Shiva's Center for the Human-Animal Bond" under "Client Information - Charitable Donation Information." Indeed, what matters most are the animals and their guardians.
