Specialties and Procedures
What Is A Specialist?
Within the past few decades new knowledge, instrumentation, and techniques have made it possible to receive advanced training in a particular field of veterinary medicine (e.g., Surgery, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine/Critical Care, Ophthalmology, etc.). The specialist is an extension of your primary veterinarian. CARE is the specialty referral and emergency hospital for your pet.
There are numerous specialty groups recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Board certification in a specialty requires a doctorate in veterinary medicine, a one-year internship, a two to three year residency and successful completion of written practical and oral examinations.
