Oncology
The CARE Hospital Oncology service, headed by Dr. Sue Downing, DVM, DACVIM (ONC), focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in dogs and cats. Once a pet is diagnosed with cancer, the Oncology team will work closely with owners to determine the clinical stage of disease and treatment options. Surgical intervention is of utmost importance in the management of cancer in dogs and cats. We also strongly emphasize the management of cancer associated pain and believe in the philosophy of early intervention. Chemotherapy is utilized in cases as indicated, and radiation therapy is available through external referrals. All pets have a doctor and nursing staff with them 24 hours a day. Dr. Downing also works closely with our surgeon to evaluate options on a case-by-case basis. Please speak with Dr. Downing or any of the staff at CARE Hospital about how our specialists work to complement services to provide your pet with the most comprehensive and compassionate care available on the central coast. Join us in welcoming Dr. Sue Downing and the Veterinary Cancer Group to Santa Barbara. She is the only board-certified oncologist in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. For more info about our Board Certified Oncologist, please see Dr. Sue Downing, DVM, ACVIM-ONC Oncology Resources
