Jean S. Greek, DVM, DACVD

Jean Swingle Greek obtained her DVM at the University of Wisconsin in 1990. She then completed a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1993, she completed her residency in dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania's College of Veterinary Medicine and successfully completed her board certification later that year.

After becoming one of fewer than 100 board certified dermatologists, she joined Veterinary Specialists of Kansas City, the largest referral practice in the Midwest. This state of the art practice offers the services of three surgeons, three internal medicine specialists, an ophthalmologist, a radiologist and five emergency doctors. In 2003, Dr. Greek joined California Animal Referral & Emergency Hospital, the only specialty & referral practice in Santa Barbara County. CARE Hospital offices services of a board certified emergency and critical care specialist, a board certified internist, a board certified oncologist, a residency-trained surgeon, and six emergency doctors who assure that hospitalized animals receive the best possible care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In 1995, Dr. Greek accepted a consultancy at the University of Missouri's College of Veterinary Medicine. In addition to thriving practices in Kansas City, she saw cases and taught students, interns and residents at the veterinary school in Columbia, Missouri. In the spring of 2000, she resigned this position to join start a satellite practice in Santa Barbara, California. She currently divides her time between the Kansas City and Santa Barbara practices.

Dr. Greek has published numerous articles on the subject of veterinary dermatology in veterinary journals and is a frequent lecturer to veterinarians and lay people on problems of skin. She lives with her physician husband of eighteen years, Ray Greek, and their 3 dogs, 8 cats, 2 horses and 2 goats. In the spring of 2000, the Greeks had their first book, Sacred Cows and Golden Geese published by Continuum. The book examines the scientific fallacy of using animal experimentation to profit humans.
